What is an EMG?

Electromyography (EMG) is a test that measures how well your muscles and nerves work together. It helps diagnose conditions that cause weakness, numbness, or tingling.

Why is This Test Done?

Your doctor may recommend an EMG to check for:

  • Nerve damage or pinched nerves
  • Muscle disorders
  • Neuropathy or nerve dysfunction
  • Conditions like carpal tunnel syndrome or ALS

What to Expect During the Test

  • Small electrodes are placed on the skin or a thin needle is inserted into the muscle.
